Nice to meet you!
I’m Eli Powell, a transportation planner from Minneapolis. In my free time, I like to create things, usually dealing with the history of college basketball.
In 2021, I created the Men’s Basketball All-Time AP Poll, which statistically is the reason you’re on this site.
From November 2022 to November 2023, I published the Name-a-Day Calendar, a daily series in which I dove into the athletic nickname history of all 360+ Division I institutions.
I am genderfluid and use they/them pronouns.
My background
In summer 2020, while everyone was stuck indoors and when I was still in grad school, I began work on a men’s college basketball analog to Winsipedia, the popular college football statistical database. Due to the high volume of data and the generally busy state of my life since then, that site is still in the works five years later, but in researching it, I discovered several fun stories from deep in the annals of college basketball history that seemed to have become almost completely forgotten. I told some of these stories on YouTube and some on my Substack blog The Low Major, where I and some friends write about college basketball as well as other sports and entertainment topics.
Professionally, I am a transportation planner and have been certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners since June 2025. My specialty is non-automotive transportation with a focus on bicycle and pedestrian networks. I am also a staunch advocate for the advancement of LGBTQ+ rights and the acceptance of non-conforming gender identities in the workplace. I currently work for an engineering firm in the Twin Cities.
